A domain controller is a server that manages the security requests from other servers and computers in the Windows Server domain. There are two kinds of domain controllers that is a backup domain controller and a primary domain controller. The primary domain controller emphasis on services of the domain to avoid the system possibility of a crash or slowing down because of the overtasking from handling other security requests and functionality.

If the primary domain controller goes down, a backup domain controller is promoted and becomes the primary domain controller to preserve the server systems working appropriately.
